A truth about MS

One of the dirty little secrets about MS is that it can be consuming and life altering.
The disease can eat away at all that is normal in life, like the things I use take for granted.

A few days before we got our newest family members, my niece (who knows better than being around me when she's sick, thank you very much) got me sick with a cold. People with MS don't just catch a cold like normal people catch colds, no we have to catch a cold and then get much sicker than humanly possible. It has to do with the whole messed up immune system illness thing.

The fact that I have been taking a form of Chemo since 2003 doesn't help either, duh.

Add to that a four and seven year child that have been moved into my home and a four month old German Shepard Puppy and...Just for kicks, a thirteen year old who, because she is wanting to make sure we still love her, has taken to living with us too.

I have been too sick to share my world with you all.

I hate MS.

Have I mentioned that before? Most of the time I manage to ignore the fact that I have a chronic illness, but this last little time period has managed to remind me:

Chickeepoo, you have MS.

I also have THE BEST husband in the whole world, be jealous, be very jealous.

I love you all that are my faithful readers and friends.
I miss you like crazy.

Anyone sees my nose, blow it for me.

  5. I am sorry you are not feeling well. I can understand. It seems as if I go to the grocery store and some one three isles over has something, I will get it! Drink Sleepytime Tea. It won't cure you, but it will help you relax and amazingly enough, it really does help you sleep! I hope you get to feeling better soon. Take care. Jaime

  12. So, is your nose like glowing cherry red and probably able to guide a certain jolly old man's sleigh through the dark nite sky? ::grin:: Pictures would have been nice!

Honey, I hate that you have MS...so that makes me hate the MS even more.

Chicky soup. Lots of it. Lots of liquids, too.

  17. If you don't mind an observation, your immune system experience just opened the door to the most unique strength of a family living with MS, the interdependence of each other. An able bodied family cannot experience the dynamics of this truth. MS constantly shifts the conventional roles of parents leaving only love and challenge. Kids “see” the relationship between spouse with MS and caregiver spouse and “know” more than they will ever be taught.
The preschool and early elementary era was brutal for Patti’s immune system. We did find noticeable success when we excluded her from any pick up / drop off contact with ‘germ world’. We kept containers of Lysol type wipes all over the place to “try” and wipe down shared surfaces such as PC mouse, keyboards, doorknobs, hands, etc. It is impossible but at least she was not catching everything.
Eventually, during this time, Patti withdrew from ALL conventional MS medications and tried Bee Venom Therapy (20 honey bee stings) every other day for almost two years, she never caught a single disease from anyone (nor did MS progress). As you well point out too many MS medications also suppress the immune system.
