The best early Present I have ever received:
(A letter from my mom in e-mail box today)
(yes, this is me.)
"When you were a little girl, the world was merely a place for you to conquer with all the wisdom of an old person. Your determination was matched by no other. Your kindness and gentle spirit captured my soul from the moment you were born and will continue to do so until I take my last breath. Rise high above all that tries to keep you down. For you are God's child that he generously loaned to me. I love you. I miss you. And I would give anything in the world to hold you in my arms and feel your soft skin on my face.
When I was seventeen and you were only three we posed for this 4 generation photograph. G-Maw insisted on holding you, her oldest grandchild and her dearest.
I miss you and love you more than life itself. Love, Mom "
******* Stage aside: the very, very old man in this picture is my Great Grandfather, the ex-boot legger, the one whose address is the county jail on my G-ma's birth certificate, the one who owned cane I now carry. I believe it was the last cane he used....in this picture he had to have been about 89 because he died close to the time my father died and I was 13 then. Isn't the world a beautiful circle? How lucky that my mom sent me these pictures today. How lucky indeed.

I just love old family pictures. There so many stories hidden within each photograph. If only they could talk. :-) It is up to us to give voice to faces from the past.
