My first rejection

Yes, I have been a bad blogger. Being a new mother of three kids that walk, talk and talk back will do that to a woman. {Insert manic laughter here.}

Yesterday I received my first rejection letter for three poems and The Monster Under My Bed, which I submitted to a literary magazine, Kaleidoscope, which caters to the disabled. I thought the story (which I polished and spit shined) would appeal to them but they said "No thanks and good luck to you in your future writhing endeavors." Didn't even suggests that I try submitting to them at some other date.

Ah well, I knew it would be so. But it doesn't mean that it hurts any less.

  1. Do Not Stress!!! All the great writers were rejected...at some time. That's what makes them great! Think of the stories you can tell when on "ET"... Can you believe they did not want my stories... hahaha...
Good luck and keep the faith!

  3. I am glad to see you are back! Kids can be a handful, but they are so worth it.

I am sorry about your rejection. I would have to agree with Lori. Don't give up! No one gets it on the first try. I am sure that there is a publisher out there who is just waiting for something like what you have to offer. :)

I wish you the best. Please take care.

  4. Oh sweetie, I know it hurts to be rejected, especially when its in regard to something so near and dear to your heart like writing is. However, one must know how it feels to be rejected to truly appreciate the bliss of being accepted. So if you can, find a way to make the rejection no more than a stepping stone to success. Do not give up and do not value your abilities based on anyone's biased point of view. Keep the faith because you will hit it, I too know you will.

    Love,

    Mom

Being a Mom is great isn't it? I smile each time I see you haven't posted because I know the reason why and am happy for you.

  6. Christina,

Dittos to what Tianka said. The agony of rejection is necessary to appreciate the thrill of acceptance. Every rejection is a stepping stone to success.

  7. LOL! I love your little saying "exercise class when you comment." It gives me the feeling that I should sit up straight and not put my arms on the table as I type.

I didn't realize you became a mommy!! Congratulations!!

Sorry about the rejection letter. Don't give up! They probably sent you a form letter so don't take the wording personally.

  10. Keep the faith and keep believing in your writing. You are good whether a magazine accepts your poem or not. They aren't God! I wrote a book and spent a year getting rejected by one publisher after another. I still write, and now that I am through with publishers, my writing is better than ever. Don't toss pearls to swine! You are good!!!

  11. alot of writers get rejected before they make their big break, White's Charlotte's Web was rejected twelve times before it was published or so I have herd. The Monster Under The Bed sounds like an interesting title. An eye catcher. Goodluck just keep trying.

  12. Ha! Won't they feel foolish when your works are prominently published elsewhere?!

    Love you~
