Weekend Assignment #4: Share the most memorable birthday present you've ever gotten -- or given (extra credit for both).

The best birthday I ever had wasn't even my birthday....it was Gil's (my fiancee that died of cancer at the age of 35). It was his 34th birthday and I had been trying to figure out what he really wanted since we knew it would possibly be his last ~ but he would not tell me because he was afraid I'd follow thru with it. He did; however, tell one of our friends who promptly told me.

I proceeded to research his dream and found out that I could invite four people with us one way and then four more the could take their place on the way back.... The company even owned a four star restaurant that they had landing privileges at. My Mom decided to rent a limo and have it take us to the airport and then go pick up about 12 of our friends who would meet us for dinner...all of this was a surprise because he thought we go going for Chinese food with my Mom and one other friend.

What was it he wanted???? A helicopter ride. We got one hour at sunset over the desert, landed for a surprise dinner party at a four star hotel and another hour or so after dark. The pilot took us right thru downtown (which he claimed was not legal) and showed us all the wondrous light. My aunt married the pilot that same year and earned us all another helicopter flight....but that is a different tale.

Everyone who was part of that evening thought it was the best birthday they'd ever had. And it was.

Christina...I just marvel at all the hurdles you've been presented in your life, and how you constantly seem to turn them into blessings. You are truly a special person, and God has his hand on you...(which is not always easy...look at Job!)
What a great story! Lisa :-]

That is wonderful. Sounds like you made all his dreams come true. Here's the link to my blog if you're ever in the neighborhood. http://journals.aol.com/lilrazcal79/ConfessionofanOridinaryMind/
