We're in the very first official week of summer, so I figured we'd get ourselves in the mood:
Weekend Assignment #11: Tell us what you think is the perfect Summer Song. And you know what a "summer song" is, of course: The song that seems to promise sunny fun from the first chords to the final drumbeat, the ones that are just made to be played in a convertable as you're cruising your way to that beach party.
Extra Credit: Tell us what you think is the best song for the last day of summer. I imagine this could be anything: A big "last blast" party song, a meditative love song about changing seasons, or anything in between.
Music, like books, is an almost impossible thing for me to choose. If I HAD to pick just one song that embodies summer for me....it would have to be "Thunder Rolls" by Garth. (Or "Clear Blue Sky" by Mr. Straight, I warned you I was fickle.) Not because either of these songs are about summer but rather because when I first became addicted to them it was the summer of 95 and that year is the year of my liberation. (For all those less jaded, read divorce for liberation.) These songs taught me quite a bit about life, love, joy and will always feel like summer for me.
The end of summer? "I shoulda been a cowboy, I shoulda learned to rope and ride" Anyone know who sang that one? Hum? This song is about regret and a forlorn longing for all that could have been. That's how I feel when summer ends.

After your liberation of what sounded like hell, I could see how you identify with "Thunder Rolls." Great picks for songs! Now, that other tune is playing in my head and I can't for the life of me think of who sang it. :-) ---Robbie

Perfect summer song...hmmm. The one song that always reminds me of summer is "Close to You" by the Carpenters. This song came out in the summer between eighth grade and my freshman year of high school. This was, let me see...1969. that would make you, what, 2 years old? LOL Lisa :-]

I dream in color, write poetry, talk about God, parent kids and finally wonder about it all
