Early post... updated......
I am linking myself....LOL.....but I want to try something since the site I mentioned appears to be unattended. On Fridays I'm thinking of picking a word at random and writting about it (them) for five minutes and encouraging each of you to do the same. I loved Robbie's what if book and thought this might be fun too. Anyone interested? (I am going to open East of Eden and pick the first word or interesting set of words I find. I may use several of my books.) I don't wanna play alone.....
10:41pm.....I will write for 5 minutes only...so without further ado here is/are the word(s):
East of Eden pg 137
"She's not a young woman."
Of course that's how he feels about me. I should have expected the insult but am forever giving people the benefit of a doubt. He can't know that I was standing there, just around the corner waiting for the proof of his exquisite goodness. Truly this man is immune to the travels of an old lady, to the wisdom to be gleamed from living a little. But I call him a man too quickly, at 23 he is barely old enough to be drinking that brandy. His sin is youth. If I am still around I'll look him up in 20 years and find out if he becomes the embittered old man I can see hiding in his eyes.

At the unripe old age of 74 I remember 2 women who wore their age as gracwfully as the woman in this essay: The first was an English Lit professor qhom I met while persuing my BA. Because I am somwhat argumentative and opinionated, We began by having arguments in class. Then because she was threatening me with a failing grade, we began meeting outside 1st in her office, then in a cofee house. I was pleased to find out that the attraction was mutual...Oh yes: I didn't fail the class-we remained friends till she moved away.
The other was the widow of a Socialist activist who was quite well known. I met her through my ex-wife, who, knowing my left-leaning, Marxian thoughts, thought it might be fun for me to meet her. So we drove from New York City tp a small town in Vermont, drove several miles on a bad, dirt road and spent several hours in the lady's house talking of kings and many things. I was turned on by her beauty whichwas unusual, because I was usually turned on by younger women...On the way home my wife berated me for flirting and not including her in the conversation. I never drove to Vermont again.

This is a great idea, I came in from Robbies story and link here. I may have to try this interactive idea. Very good story too.
I love East of Eden, one of my all time favorite books.

Huny...I wrote everything before and after the quote in five minutes. That is the fire drill as it is an exercise to flex my little typing fingers. After the five minutes were up I spell checked the product and had misspelled FOUR words. I am still praying for spell check in these journals.
Thank you for the compliment by the way.

Never read that book actualy, I'll have to put it on my list. : ) Lession learned from that entry is, watch what you say about ppl, you never know when they are listioning.

Sorry for dropping my "What If" I needed to take a break for a while after some of the crap that has been going on. I will pick it up again. I was planning on starting back up next week. I'll try to participate in yours some too.
If you click on your dead link there is a link there (I've added it to my journal) of a guy who has linked a bunch of sites like that if you are looking for fodder.
