Reading

It has occurred to me that I read a lot. By a lot I don't mean that I manage to get threw a book or two a month but that I typically read two to three books (insert novels) a week, three different daily devotionals, one newspaper, one heavy religious book a month, one kirky little comedy and then whatever else happens to be on my computer. Perhaps it has something to do with my love of words but moreover I believe I just have AADD (Adult Attention Deficit Disorder) because I can't seem to do one thing at a time or to even focus on anything. I am not certain what I am afraid of but if it is too quiet I'd be the one in the corner humming, or shaking my leg, or yikes.....drumming my fingers on the most hollow surface I can find.

I need distraction. What does this say about me? What does it say about our society? There use to be a time when people really would gather in a parlor and chat eachother up. Talk about world events, God, the neighbors, scholarly subjects or the best way to grow tobacco. They courted and had rituals I wouldn't even begin to comprehend because I'd be bored TO DEATH. I need action!

Sometimes even typing an entry is way too slow for me. I long for the future when my journal will just pick up my thoughts, display them on a little preview screen for editing and sensoring and then bammo...instant entry. Spell check would be included as well as a TOS compliance editor to filter out all those random AADD thoughts that get in my thought waves.

I am reading a lite little book called:

Dr. Vali's Survival Guide: Tips for the Journey

By Vali Hawkins Mithchell, Ph.D.

I don't know what she is a Dr. of but her book is right up my alley in that it is easy enough to follow and deep enough to allow lots of wandering. And wondering.

Click the link and check out a bit of her site if you wanna.

Here is today's best tip:

9. Don't let crazy people drive you insane, stay out of their way.

Thanks for the link and that very sensible tip. A while back I had to end a "friend" ship? that was driving me crazy because she was so crazy. I even had to talk with a therapist about it, because I felt I wasn't being a true friend...thick and thin...and all. She referred me to a book entitled, Toxic Relationships and I felt so much better about my decision to end our relationship.

Wouldn't it be cool for our computers to read our minds. The editing would be a piece of cake! LOL, Lisa

That's a good tip. I've been trying to do that lately. It's been kind of lonely, though.

Lately, I've been starting books, but not finishing them. I am actually on the verge of finishing a book I ordered a couple months ago. It is non-fiction. And it's kind of scary... Lisa :-] http://journals.aol.com/mlraminiak/ComingtotermswithMiddleAge/

AHA! I see your mind works like mine. I seem to inhale books, any kind I can get my hands on. The one you're reading sounds appealing. I love things that make one wonder. Hugs, hom. *Barb. http://journals.aol.com/barbpinion/HEYLETSTALK
