Lisa has the most passionate entry I've read in awhile and it is also a game.....

"All these questions and answers making the rounds in Journal Land… I'm going to answer one that nobody has asked: What song do you think best expresses your personal philosophy?"

This question, for me, is right along the lines as the whole book question. Pick just one song that expresses my personal philosophy????? Oh geez people, I cannot commit to such a thing because as soon as I pick a tune another one butts in screaming "pick me, pick me."

Some of my earliest memories involve the words and melodies of whole songs.....

"Spinning wheels go round and round. What goes up, must come down."

or

"Come and play, everything's A-OK."

or

"Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down."

or

"Sunshine on my shoulder makes me happy, sunshine almost always get me high."

or

"If I only had a brain, I could while away the minutes, sing a song and put you in it...if I only had a brain."

or

"What child is this, on Mary's lap is sleeping? This, this is Christ the King...the Babe, the Son of Mary."

And these songs are just the noise from my youth. How to pick one song that embodies my whole being? Oh for heaven's sake I don't know if I can. Can I pick a few?

#1 Itsy Bitsy spider crawled up the water spout. Down came the rain and washed the spider out. Up came the sun and dried up all the rain and the Itsy Bitsy spider crawled up the water spout again.

Now I realize this is a child's song but at it's core it is really a very adult song. It's about struggles, set backs, determination and courage. It's about not ever giving up and facing your troubles head on. In many ways this song is me.

#2 I can only imagine what I'll do when I see Your face. Will I fall down on my knees or will I stand in Your presence? Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all?

This is a contemporary Christian song and it also fits me....it says that I am humble enough to admit that I know nothing of God and that I fear the unknown. The song tries to imagine what it will be like to be in God's presence but so clearly admits that I cannot know how it will be. This one fits me too.

#3 Bob Marley's "No Woman, No Cry"

This song is bound to be a surprise to most of you but it is also how I feel about myself and the world. I love Reggae music because it talks mostly about love which, in my world, is another name for God. Marley doesn't look as good in writing but I do know the words. You just have to hear Marley.

What a neat entry. Much like Scalzi's book assignment, I could never choose ONE song that best expresses my personality. But I like that you chose mostly children's songs.. it shows how child-like you can be. A great quality for anyone, I think. :)

Wow, you made me see "Itsy Bitsy Spider" in a whole new light. I couldn't think of a song either. So, I told Lisa "Bat Out of Hell" was mine. Now, I'm feeling kind of bad for being such a smart-alic. Your answers were so well thought out.

Hey lady! Your journal is always fun. :) I love all these songs you've listed here. It is hard to pick just one, isn't it? I like "The Rose" by Bette Midler...but that's only one. Like you, I have several and it's hard to pick only one that says it all. :) I'm back on the journals and hope to stay this time. Visit me if you wish! ~V

I thought this was a hard question, too. Then I realized that the way to play this game is to just choose the first thing that pops into your head. Cinchy:
"Windy" by the Association. Done. I'll say no more.
Go see my new poem! I am counting on your criticism!

And, dang, yeah, I saw that entry and it inspired me to pick a fight with Armandt.

ckays, great entry!
For a song, I think of "Nous somme du soliel " By YES [We are the Sun] from the CD " Tales from Topographic Oceans "
