spiritual happiness

Occasionally my soul feels just a bit edgy, which with all the crowds endured lately is often, the best medicine is singing. I don't mean singing nice and lady like but rather belting out the tunes ~ tone deaf glory and all !!!

Fa la la laaaaaa la la la !!!!

Whenever I sing during the holidays it seems that three special songs fill me up, fill me over. What Child is This (lyrics below) is my favorite but then I really like Baby it's Cold outside and Winter Wonderland too. These song's go over well with the crowd in my shower..... LOL

Perhaps singing is what brings out the freedom we all long for as humans or perhaps it is simply joyful. Whatever the reasoning song is a magic cure-all.

Does anyone know all the words to: All I want for Christmas is a Hippo??? Man, that is a song that cracks me up. Even had to buy a giant Christmas Hippo at the grocery store one year and every year I break him out to reign as couch master.

We had to go out and about in the general world today to find treats for a Bunco Party tonight and if I did not know any better I would believe the Peace on Earth and Goodwill towards Men had been thrown out with the bath water. I almost got ran over by a 70 year old lady and her cart when I was grabbing a carton of sour cream. It's not like she could have missed me....in heels I am 5' 10", blond and I carry a cane. Hello........watch it lady. I must have looked murderous because Charley said "Why don't we just go home now honey." (Did you notice the "honey?" like that would tame a lioness....) I thought I was gonna have to throw punches with someone's grandma. But my gosh, ya can't miss a wobbly woman with a cane.

Once home. my nieces came over and helped decorate our tree. I am beginning to rethink this whole kids of my own concept.....when did I become so stuffy? I mean seriously, who hangs all the ornaments together? Everyone knows they must be spaced all around the tree don't they? Don't they? Umph. Ba hum bug. These kids, bless their little hearts, just kept putting all the angels on one side and all the icicles on the other.....I thought angels liked the cold. Someone please tell me that heaven isn't hot.

Now I am off to find pajamas since Charley just informed me that this little party is also a PJ party.......will the cheer never end??

update: I couldnt agree more.... Singing frees the soul..... it has been my escape from reality in dealing with the things I go through.....

But if you are still in the singing mood...... here is your link you were looking for....

I was singing today, too. I put on AOL radio Christmas classics. God it felt so good to hear those songs from Christmases past.

You are right...there is something magical about singing. Music holds so much emotional power.

"...no crocodiles, or rhinoceroses, I only like hippopotomuses; and hippopotomuses like me too!" Dr. Demento introduced us to this song several years back. I think it's a hoot! Sing away, Christina! Lisa :-]

I LOVE that old Gayla Peevey song, “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas”. I first heard it on my Dr. Demento’s Christmas Novelty Songs CD and fell instantly in love with it.

I know what you mean about nearly being run over even with a cane. It is simply mind boggling. From the day after Thanksgiving until all the holiday gifts have been exchanged we just try to avoid the season of survival of the fittest. I think some times that Darwin has replaced Dickens as the author of record for the season.

Christina, you must forgive the old bat for trying to run you over. You never can tell, she might be angry that she is aged, senile, blind and suffering from meaness. But then again, 70 is not THAT old! On second thought you should have smacked her with your cain and told her to show a little respect! Have fun singing sweetie, and have a great time at the party. Love, Mom
