Another game I'm gonna play tonight when I am on Valium....ought to be good times. Thanks Cynthia for the inspiration.

The 5 material possessions I cherish the most:

A bible that is 38 years old. This is the bible I remember reading as a child when I mentioned that I got hung up on the flood part for months...it scared the devil out of me. {pun intended} This Bible use to be white, has a zipper that is now almost broken and colored pictures. There is something magical about a color pictures in a bible. The thing I don't like is it is a King James and there are a lot of theses and thous, thy and shalts....I mean, who talks like that?

My mother's artwork. I've heard that possession is nine-tenths of the law and am here to say that my Gypsy Mom has accidentally left plenty of her artwork in my home. That, by law, makes it mine right? Right? Any way, I love having her original pieces on my walls as it makes me feel closer to her and causes me great comfort.

The ring. I've written about this one...it does better justice than I can write again. But this one is also tied with a clock Mom's father made for me that plays Westminister Abby Chimes every 15 minutes. It is the only thing he has given me since I was nine.

My books. I learned at a very young age that books could bring the world to me. I could travel, meet interesting folks and experience so much by picking up books. I remember Dr. Seuss and Dick & Jane. I remember Spot. When I was a tiny kid and my Mom lost me in a store (30 years ago moms didn't have heart attacks when their kids got lost in stores) she knew not to go to the toys section to find me, she went to the books. And that was always where I was.

My computer and AOL. Now, contrary to what you are thinking, this is not a ploy to get free AOL...I pay for two different AOL accounts and will as long as AOL is. There is a good reason for this and it is bittersweet. I started as an AOL member back in 96 and the computer and the account was a gift from Gil. He bought them both for me so that I could meet people on line who were going thru what I was going thru ~kind of like what I am doing in journal land now~ Being a primary caregiver is draining, depressing and thankless work. One of my dearest friends is Donna {Beagleblue} who I meet on a message board because her husband had Pancreatic Cancer too. Being on line has opened me up to the same kind of world that books brought me....only the trips are faster and the people real. I love each of you that touch my soul regularly. And I humbly thank you for your gifts.

All 5 of my most cherished possessions would be books. I can imagine myself giving up almost anything else. But my books - my GOOD books - are mine until I die. And then, I pray my children take them and keep them always. :) When people give me their books, I want to cry. Because I can't imagine giving anyone a book that belongs to me. It's a selfish love I have for them. So to recieve a book from someone is a true treasure.

I love these games you play! :)

although i don't possess the people in J-Land, (possessed by Mumsy--what a concept!)-- I would have to say there are plenty I cannot do without! You are one.
I'm going to have to think about this possessions thing. they will undoubtedly become poems. . . I hadn't thought of "honor thy things" before. truly. thanks.

All excellent choices. I've written about something similar before, within the context of what I would save if there's a fire. My answer since my teens has always been the same: letters, pictures and my journals. Memories mean more to me than material possessions. I would add my backup computer disks where I have more momories stored. Other than that everything else can be replaced.
