DeQuervain's tendinitis

DeQuervain's tendinitis

So this is what the doctor is saying it is today...a few weeks ago I thought I broke my left wrist when I was getting the jogging stroller out of the insanely large gas guzzling Urban Mobile. Today, when I was there for my yearly "Hiya Doc, nice to see ya." appointment, he decided that it is probably "DeQuervain's tendinitis" which means a really bad sprain.

I am now sporting a fancy $58.95 full length formfit thumb spica splint. Hey, the In Home Health Equipment Store I went to to buy the thing submitted the bill to my insurance so it at least applies to my deductible. Amazing huh? A person with M.S. has not yet met the deductible and it is already October 1st.

Geez, do ya think maybe I am NOT THAT SICK?

(Had to take a small jab at the blog police because I am still holding on to that grudge. See, if I was not I could share with you all the glorious joy of last week. I could write about the fantastic thing happening in my family right now, instead of writing about my stupid little hand splint and my silly little illness.)

Oh Lord, help kill these bitter roots in my garden, they are taking over. The wild flowers are so beautiful and I want to share the fragrance of them with my faithful friends.

Someone's cries are beckoning me away.

  1. Sorry to hear about the pain and the spider bite.

DeQuervain's can also be a repetitive-motion injury. In my case, and I have it worse in my left hand at the moment than in my right, if I do lots of typing, it'll start acting up. My index finger will start twitching at times and my thumb will just ache.

I'm told it's actually an inflamation of the sheath around the tendons that feed the thumb and index finger...when the inflamation goes back down, all is well...when it gets aggravated again, well, here we go again!

Hope yours heals up quickly. If you use the splint faithfully, you should see a big improvement in just a few days.

    Feel better soon!
