This is my middle son, David.
He is the light of my world (as all my kids are) and the reason we decided that next year we would home school our kids. At six years old he ought to be eating up knowledge, lapping the edges of the world with hunger and joy, but a certain system already started to put out his natural lust for learning. Little kids should not HATE school...not when they are six years old. So summer begins and we are going to conquer this world together.
Do not get discouraged with David's dislike for school... Some kids have the zeal for the education system and some do not... Some get it later in life and some have enough common sense and smarts they do not need it (Bill Glass did not even go to college)
ReplyDeleteOne of my three has had no interest since day one... with no influencing from any other sources, he choses not to like school... He struggles to get assignments done and is lucky to be porous enough to get through it with just showing up. I knew from a very early age with comments like... "Do I really have to go to school everyday?" and like "Do I really need to learn how to print my whole name?" (in kindergarten)...
Joe says he was not even motivated to do his work till college... and look at him now... The smartest man I've ever met... No joke (useful and un useful knowledge... ie:sports and politics)
I've even had him tested... They said he's just not really into it... they also say he's not focused but very smart... I always get "He's a great kid and joy to be around very interesting and respectful"... I was secretly hoping for a diagnosis so I could get magic pill to make him self motivated... (hoping it would work on his chores at home too...
Oh my favorite comment was (from a male teacher) "He's just a boy, they tend to be like that..." that one killed me...
I've had him tutored and they love him one on one and does everthing asked but getting him there is not fun...
All I'm saying is take it easy and hopefully it will all work out in the end... I know home schooling won't hurt and give it a try but think of all the fun we had in school and all he will be missing out on... maybe he can main stream when he builds his confidence... anyways good luck with ever you do... just a little girfriends experiance to shed some light...

I'd second what Lorileo said. Quite honestly, I've only known one six-year-old who actually liked school.
