November is National Adoption Month, a fact I did not know a few short years ago. There are usually celebrations at the court houses when children are adopted in the Month of November and in our town the day these parties are happening is November 30, 2007. The courts do the whole day like a party and celebrate the new families.
Judges say they enjoy presiding over adoptions because they are happy events that create families, forever. Forever.
This story highligts the National day, which was November 17th.
It fascinates me that life is such a cycle of giving and taking. Adoptions do not happen if someone, somewhere does not give up a child(ren). They also do not happen if others don't decide to take on the child(ren). November does not highlight the cuddly little babies that everyone always seems to want. It actually is about the older children, the hard to place children. The kids that usually "age out" of the system because no one ever adopted them.
All people deserve to know they belong somewhere, forever. That no matter what there is a place to turn to. Even at my age I know I could "run home" if I needed to. Some of these kids do not ever get that chance to belong and unfortunately, they will often fail to break the cycle that their parents are/were in when the kids themselves turn 18.
And is 18 really ready for the responsibility of taking care of one's self? Shouldn't an 18 year old be worrying about college instead?
Stunningly enough this November is a promising time in my own life, whereas before I always thought about my losses in the fall. This year I have not even remembered The Dates until after they pass.
Sometimes I giggle and think, be careful of what you pray for and of how many people you ask to join in those prayers.
Sometimes, being a judge is a joy rather than a burden: Just adding a stamp of approval is much more rewarding than ignoring the lessons of our lord (thou shalt not judge).
ReplyDeleteMy parents had a very sucessful day Nov. 17th and said the Judge was the most kind person they have ever met. They also said it was a major day of celebration.... They had food, cake, ice cream at the court house... and much more. It was very organized and done quickly. They even took pictures with Enya on his lap in the court room.
ReplyDeleteI hope all goes well with you on this most exciting day for you and the newest Brown Family members....
