It's time to reveal the close ups...
Your Monday Photo Shoot: Get Close
John's photo shoot: Let's try something participatory with this week's Photo Shoot -- not just with the photographers but with the folks who look at the photos:
Your Monday Photo Shoot: Take a picture of something in extreme close-up -- so close it's hard to tell what you're looking at. Ask people to guess. On Thursday, reveal what you've photographed.
Thus, since it is Thursday, now I may reveal what my photos are of.........
dun, dun, dun....
Number one is a bridge. Which bridge does not matter as much as the fact that it IS a bridge. Bridges get you across the waters, across the valleys and simply across. They span across places that are likely to hold us up. Every bridge I have ever seen is majestic to me.
Number two is my very own seven foot giraffe. It was a birthday present from my mom, clearly something not everyone has. The top shot is looking up so you have an idea of its size...I am 5'7". One is decorated for Christmas.
And the most Extravagant purchase I have ever made??? A Civil war era pulpit bible from New Orleans. Bibles of this age are not valuable yet so to spend real money on one that is only 145 years old is an investment in my great-great-great-great-great someone's future. Nevertheless, I had to have it.
Tisk, tisk to all that thought it was an old bottle of wine...but in a way it is the true wine of life.
A bridge, a giraffe and a bible.
Sounds like the start of a great joke, eh?

I didn't guess the giraffe. That Bible though is cool.
I think I'd do what you did if I had the opportunity.
Old books aren't worth much money, but the thought
of something to intertwined with life as we know it. Now that's cool.

Whoa, I'm impressed, you have your very own giraffe!
Must be quite the conversation piece! The Civil War era Bible is really cool, too!

P.S. Your mom's artwork is some of the most fantastic
artwork we have seen. She employs the perfect amount
of photorealism and yet the art is much more evocative
than any photograph could be. Amazing!

Well, we guess that 1 out of 3 ain't bad. (You had to know
that maybe 4 people in J-land would be able to guess the giraffe.)
The bible looks to be in excellent shape. Very nice!
